Levan Hall continues to take shape and is on schedule to open in Fall 2010!
The large blocks of Styrofoam seen around the building this week are part of the substrait for the insulation of the roof; this part of the roof will be completed over the weekend. The placement of the synthetic membrane will begin around Wednesday March 10, taking about 10 days as it gets placed carefully in corners and around pipes.
Interior work with plumbing, electrical, sprinklers, and HVAC work is still taking place inside the building, with about 25-30 workers indoors. Dry wall is being taped in the lower level and will then be put up, with insulation, on the main and upper floors.
The Corten panels and sheathing of the west side of the building with “green glass” have all been installed. The flashing work is almost complete. The cutting noises earlier in the week were caused by the cutting of concrete blocks, and that is also complete.
The aluminum window frames are being made on-site (about 2/3 are done). Once the frames are in, the glass will be installed in three to four weeks.
The rough-grading for the handicap access path that will lead from Weigle to Levan, then to the first level entrance of Peterson will begin next week (around March 8). We don’t anticipate hitting rock during this grading, however it’s a possibility, in which case rock cutting can be quite noisy and jarring. When the grading is complete, the walls and steps around the path will be formed and poured, and a trench will be dug to carry water run-off into an acequia that will be between FAB and Levan, taking water to the arroyo. Bricks that were pulled up from the area before construction will be used to make the path. This process will take a few months, and is dependent upon good weather.
Rough-grading behind Weigle will hopefully begin the week of the 8th, with paving to follow within the next month or so.
Coming soon: prep work for exterior stucco (in about 2 weeks) and the installation of the elevator (end of March).
The east Peterson balcony will remain closed for a few more months due to some re-design work for stability. It will be open by graduation!
The one-day electrical shut off for FAB and the Library will be Tuesday, March 23.
