Beginning Monday September 14, the landscaping contractor will start building the dry stack retaining walls behind Weigle Hall and between Levan and Weigle.  Note that the red horizontal line on the back wall of Weigle indicates the finish grade of where the soil level will be.

The stem walls are in place, with the forms being removed.  The concrete will cure for 28 days, then soil will be back-filled around them.  The stem walls are also being weatherproofed with a protective membrane that will wick water away from the foundation to piping that will carry any excess moisture away from the building.

The two large concrete pads that were just poured are for the entry columns to the building.

A “hot box” has been installed behind Weigle that will host electrical connections to Levan.  The electrical contractor is continuing to install 4” gray conduit to hold all of the building’s electrical wiring.

In the coming weeks, you will notice that wood forms will be going up near the Fine Arts Building.  These will be the stem walls for the outer stair case that should be in place by early November.

A pre-install 10’x10’ mock-up of the concrete floor finish will take place during the next month on the ML Placita near the blue dumpsters.  Once cured and polished, the architects can approve the final finish (did you know concrete has to cure for 28 days?).

The blue open-end dumpsters on the Meem Library Placita are to sort construction debris for LEED certification.

Construction hours are 7:00a-3:30p, Monday through Friday.

You will notice new signs on various fences reminding people “Danger, Do Not Enter”.  Please keep an eye out for designated walkways and be respectful of the construction boundaries, which are blocked off by fencing.  Additional information will be posted as it becomes available. 

Levan Hall is being built as a LEED Silver Certified Building, and is located between the Fine Arts Building and Weigle Hall.
