Construction and Renovation Updates
10/9/09

The Betty and Norman Levan Hall

The college has installed a web cam that updates every 60 seconds. Click here to view!

During the week of October 12, crews will work to complete the backfilling of the building, as well as finish the stacked retaining walls around Weigle Hall.  In addition, work on the outer stair case to the Fine Arts Building will continue, as will work on the restoration of the Peterson Student Center wall and balcony.

The 10’x10’ mock-up of the concrete floor finish will continue to cure on the ML Placita near the blue dumpsters.  It will be polished around October 21, and hopefully approved around the 22nd (see photo below; note the radiant heating coils).

During the week of October 19, there will be a great deal of activity as steel beams are put in place to support the plaza level floor, as well as the supporting beams on the west side of the building (these will be up to 29’ feet long, reaching to what will be the roof).  To move these beams into place, a crane will be situated behind the Fine Arts Building (this will be on campus for about 6 days), and there will be welding work.  NOTE: On the 19th, there may be some traffic direction at the entry road.

Once the beams are up, we can look forward to the placement of steel decking that will support the concrete floor of the plaza level.  After the steel comes the radiant heating tubes, then the wire mesh, then the concrete for the floor.

Concrete for both the lower level and plaza level floors is expected to be poured the week of November 2.

Construction hours are 7:00a-3:30p, Monday through Friday.

Please keep an eye out for designated walkways and be respectful of the construction boundaries, which are blocked off by fencing and marked by Do Not Enter signs.  Additional information is posted as it becomes available.

Levan Hall is being built as a LEED Silver Certified Building and the blue open-end dumpsters on the Meem Library Placita are to sort construction debris for the this certification.  Levan Hall is located between the Fine Arts Building and Weigle Hall, and is expected to be open for classes in Fall 2010.
