Construction and Renovation Updates
November 20, 2009

The Betty and Norman Levan Hall

The college has installed a web cam that updates every 60 seconds. Click here to view!

The concrete truck was on campus this week to help with the filling of the concrete blocks on the outer walls of the building. This will continue on Monday and Wednesday, November 23 and 25.  NOTE: in order to do the block work, the temperature has to be at least 35 degrees, so some mornings, crews have to wait until the sun gets the mercury moving!

The concrete cap to be poured over the new stonework at the side of Peterson and the PSC balcony has been delayed and should be done on Tuesday November 24.   Once dried and weather-proofed, a new railing will be put in place, allowing for the balcony to be re-opened around December 1.  At this same time, the railings for the FAB exterior staircase will also be put in place.

Plans are to have a sidewalk poured behind Weigle on Wednesday November 25, with prep-work taking place on Tuesday November 24 (this means the back staircase will not be accessible those days).  The sidewalk will lead from a handicap parking space and a loading/delivery parking space on the south west end of the building.

The open trench on the east side of the Levan site remains open while we await the arrival of a piece of equipment.

The crane will return to campus on Wednesday November 25, as will more steel beams.  Installation will not begin until the following week and will take seven days.  Remember, after the beams, the cycle returns: steel decking, radiant heat, wire mesh, and then pouring concrete for the top floor, hopefully in mid-December.

Later this month and well into December, as weather permits, grading will take place above and behind the fish pond, north of Levan.  This work will be to provide appropriate ramping to Levan from the upper placita level, and may involve rock cutting.  The rock cutting can be quite noisy and jarring.

Another head’s up, there will be a one-day electrical shut off for FAB and the Library during winter break.  Date to be announced!
