The PV system (photo voltaic) that will collect solar energy to run the meters backwards will be installed in early June.
Inside the building, the locker cases in the common room have been installed. Switch-plates, light fixtures and other trim work continue to be installed, as well as work on the ceilings, which is about 60% complete. Placement of bookcases and the work room cabinets, is 90% complete, and painting is about 80% complete. The dry wall and installation of the chalkboards was finished a few weeks ago.
Vanities and toilet installation are in progress in the bathrooms of the building.
The aluminum doors are 95% installed within the building, and the stainless steel vestibule door should be ready to go in another week or so.
The cork floors in the seminar rooms will be finished around May 28, after which the carpeting of lower floor offices will begin. Carpeting will then be installed in the first floor offices and second floor common room and lounge area.
Some window installation has been slightly delayed due to glazing and framing complications, however 90% are in, and the rest are expected to be placed by the end of May.
The second coat of stucco, the “brown coat” which isn’t brown, is complete both inside and outside of the building. Early the week of the 31st, the finish color on the west side of the building (facing FAB) will be done, at which point the scaffolding can be moved. Then, the color coat will be added to the east wall of the first floor hallway, then the rest of the building. Each portion will take a couple of days to complete.
The retaining wall on the north side of the path/ramp that will lead from Weigle to Levan and Peterson is just about finished and looks great! After additional excavation near Weigle, which begins the week of the 31st, the rest of the retaining wall will be poured, followed by the very low perimeter wall of the ramp. Next will come the placement of bricks saved from the same area before the construction began, and then the railings. The whole process should be complete by the end of July.
New & upcoming work includes:
- The curb, grading, and paving work behind Weigle will now take place towards the end of June, though dirt will be moved soon.
- Boulder placement and landscaping work will take place in June.
- The furniture is expected on July 15! In order to meet LEED criteria, the building will have 28 days to “off-gas.” Occupancy can begin on the 9th day of that 28 days, and we’re still on schedule for a mid-August opening.
- Walking access between FAB and the fishpond placita, which was open during graduation, is closed until late June at the earliest.
