Construction and Renovation Updates

The Betty and Norman Levan Hall
The college has installed a web cam that updates every 60 seconds. Click here to view!
The PV system (photo voltaic) that will collect solar energy to run the meters backwards will be installed in early June. Currently, folks are working on how many panels will work best, in what locations, and with what anchoring system.
Inside the building, the dry wall is complete, as is the installation of the chalkboards. The addition of switch-plates, light fixtures and other trim work is taking place, as well as work on the ceilings (the wooden paneling has arrived and installation will begin May 11). Placement of bookcases and the work room cabinets, is a little more than halfway done. Painting is also about 60% complete!
The bathrooms are ready for fixtures this week! Vanities first, then toilets the week of the 17th. The concrete floors in the bathrooms have received their final polish, though there will be a densifier and sealer process just before opening.
Aluminum doors are being installed within the building and will be complete around May 25th.
The cable has all been pulled for the various phone and Ethernet hook ups. Jacks are being installed and tested. The elevator is completely done!
Some window installation has been slightly delayed due to glazing and framing complications, however 90% are in, and the rest are expected to be placed by the end of May.
Interior and exterior stucco work is in progress. On the exterior north, south, and east sides, the scratch coat is done. Next comes the “brown coat,” which isn’t brown, and then the color coat. Each coat needs to cure for five days, and inside and outside is expected to be complete by the end of May. Stucco on the west wall, facing FAB, will begin the week of May 17.
Outside the building, the brick path from the fishpond placita to Levan, and then to FAB is moving along quickly and will be complete by graduation on May 22.
The retaining wall on the north side of the path/ramp that will lead from Weigle to Levan and Peterson is in progress. Crews are tidying up the area in front and west of Weigle so it can be utilized for graduation, however additional excavation and path work towards Weigle will take place after commencement activities.
New & upcoming work includes:
- The installation of the stainless steel vestibule door towards the end of May.
- The curb, grading, and paving work behind Weigle will take place towards the end of May, when the concrete pouring of the ramp takes place.
- Carpeting for offices, and cork floors for seminar rooms are likely to be installed during the last week of May.
- Boulder placement and landscaping work will take place in June.
- The furniture is expected on July 15! In order to meet LEED criteria, the building will have 28 days to “off-gas.” Occupancy can begin on the 9th day of that 28 days, and we’re still on schedule for a mid-August opening.
