Construction and Renovation Updates
Updated: March 26, 2010

The Betty and Norman Levan Hall

The college has installed a web cam that updates every 60 seconds. Click here to view!

Levan Hall is moving forward wonderfully, and is still on schedule to open in Fall 2010!

The white membrane being fixed to the roof IS the roof, allowing for less heat absorption, and is just about finished.  The week of the 29th, gutters, flashing and other finishing work of that nature will begin, taking about a week and a half.

Inside the building, the mechanical, electric, and plumbing inspections are complete and the dry wall is going up quickly, with taping taking place.  The addition of switch-plates, light fixtures and other trim work will take place in May.  Scaffolding has also been set up inside so that the stucco work can begin as soon as the colors are selected (exterior stucco will begin the end of April).

Windows are being placed both inside and outside the building.  The larger ones will be the last to go in, about two weeks from now.

The sub-grading for the handicap access path that will lead from Weigle to Levan, then to the first level entrance of Peterson is complete.  This week, the fine-grading for this ramp will begin.  When the grading is complete, the walls and steps around the path will be formed and poured, and a trench will be dug to carry water run-off into an acequia that will be between FAB and Levan, taking water to the arroyo.  Bricks that were pulled up from the area before construction will be used to make the path.  The brick work from Peterson to Levan could begin as early as the end of this week.  The entire process will take a few months, and is dependent upon good weather.

NOTE: solid rock has been discovered while digging the trench, so its removal is the loud noise you’re hearing in front of Peterson!

Behind Weigle, crews will pour a new curb this week, then finish the fine-grading that will allow for the paving to be done.  This should be complete by the end of April.

The electrical shut-down last week allowed for a successful movement of electricity to the main distribution panel for Levan.  It is not yet connected to the building.

We’re expecting the elevator to be delivered towards the end of this week (3/31 – 4/1).

The east Peterson balcony should be open within a few weeks.

Coming Soon. . . mid-April to May will bring lots of work on the exterior of the building (addition of boulders, bricks and hardscape, and plantings).  In May, the interior finishes like bookcases and ceiling panels will keep folks busy.
