Construction and Renovation Updates

The Betty and Norman Levan Hall, Summer 2009
A pretty large piece of granite has been discovered while excavating for the foundation of Levan Hall. This means the excavating is moving a little more slowly than hoped for, and the pouring of footings has been delayed until closer to July 10. If the current method of using a scraper proves ineffective, a large rock hammer will be brought in to finish the job. If this is necessary, there will be a considerable increase in noise from the site.
During the week of June 29, stone retaining walls will be built south of Weigle Hall.
In concert with the construction of this new building, the college will re-direct the road at the entrance of the college (where you turn right into campus and Camino Cruz Blanca runs up to Wilderness Gate). This will begin within the next few weeks.
The return of hot water to Weigle and Santa Fe Hall has once again been postponed until mid-July. Also, the lack of water and gas service in the Fine Arts Building will continue through the same period of time. The plan to turn the water to Weigle off for the day has been delayed until over the July 4 holiday weekend.
Please keep an eye out for designated walkways and be respectful of the construction boundaries, which are blocked off by fencing. Additional information will be posted as it becomes available. Levan Hall will be built as a LEED Silver Certified Building, located between the Fine Arts Building and Weigle Hall.

Library Re-Carpeting
The library re-carpeting is complete for now. The music room will be completed in the fall.
Fine Arts Building Classroom Renovation
Renovations to FAB 104 are nearing completion. Lighting fixtures are still to come, but painting is done. See the below photo.
Upper Dorm & Suite Swipe Card Installation
The swipe card system for outer doors in the upper dorms and suites should still be complete by the end of June. We will keep groups posted as to when their meal/ID cards will become activated to work on the outer doors.
