Construction and Renovation Updates
July 8, 2010
The new home of the St. John's College Graduate Institute is on schedule for a mid-August opening, and looks great!
Most interior work is nearly complete, with final touches being done on the wood trim on the stairs, sealing concrete floors, final adjustments on ceiling panels, oak stair treads, and the final work on the HVAC controls.
Once the furniture arrives, around July 15, there will be final inspections, and the building will open as scheduled.
The ramp between Levan and Weigle is coming along nicely and should be complete with railings and concrete work by late August.
Some landscaping work is waiting for the planter walls near Peterson that have been added to the project. Irrigation work related to the landscaping will also be done when these walls are finished, around July 23. With all of this exterior work still taking place, the construction fence will likely remain up until the building opens.
The Weigle parking lot is ready to pave and will be done when the final work on the fire access road between the library and the lower dorm area is done.

New Residential Center
Plans are still in the works to begin a new residential dorm area across from the current lower dorm area in June 2011. However, in order to develop the structural design for the project, work known as “Geotechnical Engineering” will begin Monday July 12, 2010. This work will involve drilling test borings in the soil at the site of each building, which means that some trees will be removed and access paths created across from the lower dorm area. This work will take place off and on throughout the week of July 12.
For this project, the college will need to provide an additional emergency access road, so holes will be drilled in the arroyo near the northeast edge of campus, downhill from the apartments. This will take place the morning of July 14 and should only take one day.
Irrigation Work
Near the entrance to campus, new irrigation pipes are being installed to service the plantings along the road and sidewalk leading to the SAC driveway. This project should be complete within the next week or so.
