Construction and Renovation Updates
July 10, 2009

The Betty and Norman Levan Hall, Summer 2009
More granite has been found, which is once again slowing down the excavation process, but we are still hoping to be able to pour the footings around next Wednesday, July 15.  There may be extra noise as the rock is removed.  Some saw cutting and chipping of the ledge of Peterson is planned to take place during the day on Saturday July 11.  This should not cause much disruption.

The stone retaining walls to be built south of Weigle Hall began this week.

Three TIDBITS:
     1. The big pile of dirt is remaining near Peterson in case it’s needed for backfill in the project.
     2. The deeper hole is for the elevator.
     3. The web cam should be live at some point today (7/10)!

The re-direction of the entry road is expected to begin Monday July 13.  Preliminary marks have been made on the road, and the project will involve ripping up the asphalt, pouring dirt, and putting in a new curb, right around where the yellow paint ends (where you turn right into campus and Camino Cruz Blanca runs up to Wilderness Gate).  There may be some slight traffic delays in the case that a one-way is necessary.

The return of hot water to Weigle and Santa Fe Hall is still expected to take place next week, maybe on Tuesday July 14.  When the re-connection takes place, there will be a temporary shut down of the water.  Also, the lack of water and gas service in the Fine Arts Building will continue through the same period of time.

Construction hours are 7:00a-3:30p, Monday through Friday.

Please keep an eye out for designated walkways and be respectful of the construction boundaries, which are blocked off by fencing.  Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.  Levan Hall will be built as a LEED Silver Certified Building, located between the Fine Arts Building and Weigle Hall.

Removal of bridge between FAB and PSC

Lower Dorm Courtyard Renovation

This project began just the other day and should take no more than six weeks to complete.  Today through Monday July 13, there may be some jack-hammering as concrete is removed.  A Bobcat will also be in the area to remove materials and do some grading.  The renovation will include adding new concrete, rocks, gravel, and plants to create study nooks and softer paths.

Upper Dorm & Suite Swipe Card Installation

Activation of the swipe card system for outer doors in the upper dorms and suites has been delayed another few weeks.  We will keep groups posted as to when their meal/ID cards will become activated to work on the outer doors.

Fine Arts Building Classroom Renovation

FAB 104 is just waiting for a few ceiling tile and finishing touches on the carpet.  See the below photo.

Library Re-Carpeting

The library re-carpeting is complete for now. The music room will be completed in the fall.
