Construction and Renovation Updates

The Betty and Norman Levan Hall
The college has installed a web cam that updates every 60 seconds. Click here to view!
The concrete block walls are complete! The second floor ceiling will be where the beams are, and there will be about a 5’ plenum to accommodate ducts and things like that.
We’ve had some weather delays for placing the steel and wood framing for the roof, so the crane is still on campus as we try to get those placed between snowstorms. FYI, the snow has put us just a little bit behind. We are fortunate to be able to juggle the schedule a bit in this situation, moving other projects earlier, etc.
The interior framing of offices on the first floor is 90% complete. Plumbing, electrical, and HVAC work is still taking place inside the building, with about 25-30 workers indoors. This week, sprinkler work is also taking place. Temporary stairs are in place within the building; the permanent ones will be installed just prior to occupancy.
The Corten panels (steel panels that self-rust to a nice, permanent finish) for the vestibule and “bump out” area of the southwest seminar room on the top floor were planned to go in this week. Crews are also beginning to sheath the west side of the building with “green glass” sheathing, which is an exterior dry wall that provides a barrier between the stucco and framing. You might also notice crews working on the flashing around windows to help with water drainage, keeping occupants warm and safe and dry!
The exterior area between Levan, Weigle, and the top area of the pond was to have been graded this week, taking about three days. Don’t be surprised if several inches of snow slow this down a bit! We don’t anticipate hitting rock during this grading, however it’s a possibility, in which case rock cutting can be quite noisy and jarring.
The east Peterson balcony needs to remain closed a little longer as the railing needs to be reinforced and a few more repairs are required.
Behind Weigle, the ground is now frozen, so the grading and paving will be delayed until March.
The one-day electrical shut off for FAB and the Library has been moved to a date during spring break. The open trench on the east side of the Levan site remains open while we await the arrival of a piece of equipment.
