Construction and Renovation Updates

The Betty and Norman Levan Hall
The college has installed a web cam that updates every 60 seconds. Click here to view!
The recent snow has not slowed progress on Levan Hall and we are still looking to a Fall 2010 opening!
The wood framing and decking for the west roof is virtually complete. Early in the week of the 22nd, the roof will be covered by substrait (insulation and a lightweight concrete), then a synthetic membrane that is glued down.
Interior work with plumbing, electrical, sprinklers, and HVAC work is still taking place inside the building, with about 25-30 workers indoors. Towards the end of next week, insulation and dry wall will be going up within the building, starting on the lower level and moving up. The polishing of the exposed concrete floors is almost done.
The Corten panels (steel panels that self-rust to a nice, permanent finish) for the vestibule are almost all up, as are those for the “bump out” area of the southwest seminar room on the top floor. The sheathing of the west side of the building with “green glass” sheathing and work on the flashing is almost complete.
Coming up in the next week or so, we’ll see work on the window frames, as well as rough-grading for the handicap access path that will lead from Weigle to Levan, then to the first level entrance of Peterson. We don’t anticipate hitting rock during this grading, however it’s a possibility, in which case rock cutting can be quite noisy and jarring.
The east Peterson balcony will remain closed for a few more months due to some re-design work for stability. It will be open by graduation!
Behind Weigle, the ground is frozen, so the grading and paving will be delayed until March.
The one-day electrical shut off for FAB and the Library has been moved to Tuesday, March 23.
