Construction and Renovation Updates
December 18, 2009

The Betty and Norman Levan Hall

The college has installed a web cam that updates every 60 seconds. Click here to view!

NOTE: minimal work will take place while the college is closed for the holiday break.

Crews have laid the mesh and radiant heat coils so that concrete can be poured on the upper level on Monday December 21.  On January 4, the concrete block walls will start going up for the exterior of the upper level.  Did you know the blocks go up five feet at a time, then grout and rebar go inside, and then the next five feet can go up?

The interior framing of offices continues on the lower level and has begun on the first floor.

The backfilling north and west of the building will be completed by the end of next week (12/24 or so).  Crews continue to position the steel metal studs along the west side to frame the Lobby/Gallery area of the building that right now, is open to the elements.  This will be an open, interior, area.  Temporary heaters are inside to keep folks warm as well as provide a more welcoming environment for the upper level concrete.

Some stucco repair will need to take place and some other adjustments before the east PSC balcony can re-open, however it should be open before 2nd semester begins.  The scaffolding on the south side of Peterson is for stucco work that is not related to the Levan project and this work should be done around December 21. The stucco work happening on the east side of FAB is also non-Levan related, and will be done around December 24.

The sidewalk behind Weigle has been poured and we’re hoping the road will be paved, graded, and some gravel will be added during the week of December 21, but this may be postponed until January.

The one-day electrical shut off for FAB and the Library has been moved to January 12, 2010.  Also in January, the wood forms for the balcony of Levan will be placed on its east side, facing Weigle.  Once the concrete is poured, the forms will be removed.

The open trench on the east side of the Levan site remains open while we await the arrival of a piece of equipment.

Later this month and into January, as weather permits, grading will take place above and behind the fish pond, north of Levan.  This work will be to provide appropriate ramping to Levan from the upper placita level, and may involve rock cutting.  The rock cutting can be quite noisy and jarring.
