This new residential center is moving along wonderfully, and is on schedule to open June 1, 2012!
At this time, crews are working both inside and outside the buildings. On the inside, all of the rooms are framed with some drywall and insulation in place. Crews are also putting in sprinkler system piping in the seminar rooms. Outside, crews are securing insulation around the buildings, in preparation for stucco work. Some of the smaller windows have been installed, and the glass for others is on-site. There are going to be some spectacular views from large windows, as well as some of the balconies (see photo below)!
The buildings are expected to be closed up for more dedicated interior work in December.
The basic structures for two of the three walking bridges (see photo below) have been completed and will eventually be covered with concrete. The two western bridges run from the gathering placita to buildings A and B. The third bridge, to building C, is in progress.
The interior floors of the dorms will primarily be polished concrete, with tile in the bathrooms. Radiant heating will be in the halls, bathrooms, common areas, and break rooms, while the individual dorm rooms will have their own heating unit and thermostat. The dorm bathrooms will have two showers, three sinks, two toilets, and “cubby” shelving with baskets for storing toiletries.
Carpet will be placed in tutor offices in the seminar building, and the seminar rooms will have cork floors. The seminar building will have some air conditioned spaces, as well as a fireplace in the meeting room, which is located on the top floor and will open onto the gathering placita.
This LEED Silver residential center is made possible by Warren and Barbara Winiarski and other friends of St. John's College. Rooms are slated to be open for use in summer 2012.
Gates to the site open at 8:00a. Note that large vehicles will be entering and exiting campus from Camino Cruz Blanca, using the main entry road, and the road to Lowers.

Irrigation Work
Near the entrance to campus, new irrigation pipes have been installed to service the plantings along the road and sidewalk leading to the SAC driveway. A new automatic watering system is in use on the soccer field, and is working well.
