Construction and Renovation Updates
April 9, 2010

The Betty and Norman Levan Hall

The college has installed a web cam that updates every 60 seconds. Click here to view!

The southern doors to Peterson will remain closed through Monday, April 12, as repairs are made to the ledge above the doors by the east balcony.  The balcony, however, will be open through the second floor doors this weekend!

NOTE: the closure of the main doors to the Fine Arts Building has been delayed.

Despite occasional delays with small pieces of the construction, Levan Hall is moving forward wonderfully, and is still on schedule to open in Fall 2010!

The white membrane on the roof is complete.  Flashing, parapet, and other finishing work of that nature begins Friday April 9 and will take about four to five days.

Inside the building, the dry wall is almost all up, with about 50% of the taping finished.  The addition of switch-plates, light fixtures and other trim work will take place in May.

The prep-work for the interior and exterior stucco work will begin Monday April 12 (first layers, wire, etc.).  The final coat will await a final color selection.

St. John's College ITS personnel are involved with the card swipe access system, and phone and computer hook-ups.

Windows continue to be placed both inside and outside the building.  The frames for the larger windows are done and the glass is being ordered.  All windows should be in place by around April 26.

Work on the path that will lead from Weigle to Levan, then to the first level entrance of Peterson continues with sloping work being done on the remaining dirt, and preparations for a retaining wall on the northeast side of the path taking place during the week of April 12 (footings will be placed).  Additional path work towards Weigle will take place after this May’s commencement activities.

Bricks that were pulled up from the area before construction will be used to make the path.  The brick work from Peterson to Levan may begin around April 19 (we’re waiting for some trench drains).  The entire process will take a few months, and is dependent upon good weather.

The curb, grading, and paving work behind Weigle has been postponed until the concrete pouring of the ramp takes place, probably in May.

The elevator has been delivered (it came in pieces) and is about 70% installed.  It will be ready in mid-May.

NOTE: the northeast fencing outside of Weigle will likely be pushed back several feet by commencement.  Also by commencement, the fencing on the fishpond placita near Peterson will also be moved back to allow for walking access between the pond and FAB.

Coming Soon. . . mid-April to May will bring lots of work on the exterior of the building (addition of boulders, bricks and hardscape, and plantings).  In May, the interior finishes like bookcases and ceiling panels will keep folks busy.
