Construction and Renovation Updates
Updated: April 23, 2010

The Betty and Norman Levan Hall

The college has installed a web cam that updates every 60 seconds. Click here to view!

Access to the Fine Arts Building is a bit difficult as the brick-work has begun right outside the entrance.  Folks can enter and exit on the Meem Library Placita level, if they prefer.  This disruption will continue for another two to three weeks.

The roof is complete, other than the PV system (photo voltaic) that will collect solar energy to run the meters backwards!  This will be added in May or early June.

Inside the building, the dry wall is 90% complete, with just a few small areas to go.  The addition of switch-plates, light fixtures and other trim work will take place in May.

The installation of wire lath inside and outside the building continues in preparation for stucco.  We’re hoping to stucco the west well (facing FAB) first, so that the scaffolding can come down, allowing for some step and acequia work to take place between Levan and FAB.

St. John's College ITS personnel are working with an outside company to pull in cable for phone and data hookups, which began the week of April 19 and will continue for a few more weeks.

The installation of all windows should be complete by the end of April.

Work is being done to form the footings for the wall of the ramp that will lead from Weigle to Levan and Peterson.  Additional excavation and path work towards Weigle will take place after this May’s commencement activities.

The trench drains are being poured now, which will allow for additional brick work to be done moving east from FAB to Levan, then around the corner to the fishpond placita.  This work will take place from now until graduation, May 22.

The ceramic tile work in all five bathrooms is complete!

The curb, grading, and paving work behind Weigle has been postponed until the concrete pouring of the ramp takes place, probably in May, and the elevator will be ready in early May.

New & upcoming work includes:

NOTE: the northeast fencing outside of Weigle will likely be pushed back several feet by commencement.  Also by commencement, the fencing on the fishpond placita near Peterson will also be moved back to allow for walking access between the pond and FAB.

Coming Soon. . . mid-April to May will bring lots of work on the exterior of the building (addition of boulders, bricks and hardscape, and plantings).  In May, the interior finishes like bookcases and ceiling panels will keep folks busy.
